Process
- Divide students into three groups (seven members per group)
- Assign an amendment (13,14, or 15th) to each group.
- Instruct the students to create a name for their newspaper that will reflect the assigned amendment.
- Provide the students with a sign up sheet to assign the following roles: editor, journalist, photographer,
- After each role is distributed, guide students as they research their position.
- Give students time to discuss newspaper design and needs of the project within their groups.
- Have the students utilize printing press template for their newspaper.
- Tell the students to think of themselves as experts on the amendment they will research.
- Show students how to use the pathfinder to find sources.
- Inform the students that they will need to have credible sources and include a works cited page in APA format within their project.
- Have the students include all criteria in the newspaper
- Facilitate collaboration and peer review of student work
- Help students finalize all changes and prepare to "publish" their newspaper allowing for last minute questions.
- Have a day for students to present their projects to the entire class.
